Olubode Fagbamiye

To practice law in Canada, I attended the University of Victoria Law School, in Victoria, BC, to complete the requirements of the National Committee on Accreditation of the Canadian Federation of Law Societies in June 2005. I worked for a year with the BC Ministry of Environment as a Policy Analyst and Member of the Core Team on the Wildlife Act Review Project before proceeding to the law firm of Evans Pearson and Company in Edmonton, Alberta, as an articled student. During articles, I appeared at every level of Court in Alberta with over one hundred appearances in the areas of family law, personal injury law, and commercial law. I was called to the Alberta Bar, in Edmonton, Alberta, in December 2007, and to the British Columbia Bar, in Vancouver, BC, in February 2008.

I am a Child and Youth Advocate with the Legal Representation for Children and Youth in Alberta. I volunteered as a: Resolution Conference Facilitator with the Fraser Burrard Community Justice Society; and Member of the Citizens Advisory Board with the Burnaby Youth Custody Services Centre. I also maintain an avid interest in human rights issues as a Director-at-Large with the Vancouver Island Human Rights Coalition.

I have over ten years’ experience working in government regulatory settings with advocacy experience before the courts and administrative tribunals. I prosecuted liquor infractions (involving restaurants, bars, pubs, liquor manufacturers, and liquor retails stores) for the BC Government for over five years. I also prosecuted securities contraventions such as investment fraud, breach of orders, unregistered trading, misrepresentations, and illegal distribution of securities by capital market participants, for about six years. I have appeared in over one hundred administrative hearings with near perfect success, and I also appeared as co-counsel at the BC Court of Appeal in a securities case on investment fraud.

My skills include problem-solving, public speaking, strategic planning, as well as capacity and team building. In my spare time, I love to read novels, jog, swim, bike, and listen to music.
