Gail Lynn Gatchalian, QC

With over 20 years of litigation experience, Gail represents unions, professional associations and individual employees and professionals before labour arbitrators, other administrative tribunals and in court.

As a trained workplace investigator, Gail is retained by employers and organizations to conduct competent, prompt, independent and fair investigations.

Gail is a recognized media authority on sexual harassment law and workplace investigations pertaining to it. Her writing on the subject and some of her media interviews can be found here.

Employers seek Gail’s advice on their employment and human rights obligations. Gail is also a Nova Scotia Human Rights Board of Inquiry Chair.

Recognized for her excellence as a labour and employment lawyer, Gail is a past Chair of the Canadian Bar Association National Labour and Employment Law Section.

Gail received her Queen’s Counsel designation in 2018. She was selected by her peers for inclusion in The Best Lawyers of Canada 2019 in the field of Labour and Employment Law.

Gail’s leadership in the profession includes her role as President 2018-2019 of the Canadian Bar Association Nova Scotia Branch.

Raised in Cape Breton, Gail graduated with a B.Sc.(Hons) in Biology from Dalhousie University in 1993, and received her LL.B. from the University of Toronto in 1996.
