| Description | Carina practises intellectual property and specializes in major patent, copyright and trademark litigation. She has participated extensively in complex Canadian patent litigation and associated litigation strategy, including many years litigating pharmaceutical-related patents and Patented Medicines (Notice of Compliance) Regulations proceedings for several major pharmaceutical companies. With a background in computer engineering, Carina has acted for technology clients in patent, copyright and intellectual property licensing matters.Prior to joining Osler, Carina was appointed for two terms as a Tribunal Member for the Military Grievances External Review Committee, an independent federal administrative tribunal. As a Tribunal Member, she adjudicated labour and employment-related grievances. Carina thus has in-depth experience in administrative law, tribunal practice and judicial review in the Federal Court of Canada.Carina has regularly appeared before the Federal Court of Canada and the Federal Court of Appeal in intellectual property matters, representing research-based pharmaceutical companies and other IP rights holders. She has also appeared in cases before such administrative tribunals as the Trademarks Opposition Board and the Canadian International Trade Tribunal, and has contributed to representations to Parliament on amendments to intellectual property legislation.Prior to her legal career, Carina spent nine years as an aeronautical engineering officer with the Canadian Forces where she acquired a broad knowledge of Canadian Forces structure and policies. As an engineering contracting officer for the Department of National Defence, she managed government procurement and engineering development contracts, and worked closely with Industry Canada and several international defence contracting companies.Carina recently completed her Masters of Law at Osgoode Hall specializing in Intellectual Property Law. |
